Journal- Everything Is a Human Being (Major themes)

The major themes of this story are exactly what the title states, Everything is a Human Being, and that mankind is killing our environment. Walker personifies many things in the world around her, the trees especially. She talks as if the trees were indeed humans, with human feelings. An underlying message in the story is that the destruction of nature is every human's fault regardless of your personal views and actions. When Walker talks to a tree about how she does not support man's need to harvest wood the tree does not care, it views all humans by the evil deeds of some.
